The silhouette floating lamp design is based on the iconic table lamp, it contrasts ultramodern technology with sophistication. The floating effect is possible due to its electromagnetic components and an expertly designed control system.
This is no optical illusion, you won't feel any clear plastic or thin wires holding the two halves of the lamp shades together, they literally split in the middle.
Designed with strong repelling magnets, the top half of the lampshade is actually levitating an inch or so above the rest of the lamp, completely defying gravity!
The lamp base below the shade has two sets of LEDs flush-mounted into it. The lower side has three LEDs for discrete down lighting; the upper side has six for uplighting. The upper and lower lights can be operated independently or both together to give you exactly the level and type of lighting you need!
The levitating lamps low voltage and low power consumption - around 11w with the lights on and 3w without. To give you a comparison, a TV and VCR on standby 10w and 2w respectively. So you don't have to dismantle everything when you go to bed, just turn the lights off.
I haven't finished yet (sorry - got to get it off my chest). The shades mounted on a small magnetic disc which can carry weights up to 100g when you n't using the shade. It's down to your imagination what you put on there - messages, little presents, reminders, the options really endless!
